Nice potted history of the Trabbi:
http://home.clara.net/peterfrost/trabant.html
Surprising number of the Trabbis pictured have British registrations; I hope they didn't all end up in that guy's field ...

Some more stuff I don't recognise. These are painted as Des Moines police, but sure as hell don't look like any US cop cars I've ever seen. Can anyone put a name to them?

I think they're both Mercury Montereys. The first one looks like a '72-'74, and the second one looks like a '69-'72.

Actually these are three cars, not two. The first one is a 1973-74 Ford Custom 500. The second one is a Mercury mid-size (Montego?) and the third one (last picture only) is a 1974 Plymouth Satilite.

I knew you'd get it.

I thought that last picture looked eerily like a B-body, but Montereys of that generation do have that same sort of swoop, so I gave the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks. I was wondering what they were. The movie is set in Iowa, but appears to be shot in South Africa. It's pretty obvious at times, as there's many cars that weren't sold in the US visible and you can see that many of them are right hand drive.

Those ones had me confused though. The movie was released in 1994 and those all appeared to be much older cars which I didn't recognise. I also noticed that they were left hand drive, unlike the majority of the vehicles in the movie.

Nearly all of those cars are flipped over and blown up. There's a good few of them used and they're all similar looking. I thought it was just two models. I wonder why they had all those early to mid 70's American cars in South Africa in 1994? I doubt they imported them specifically for this movie, as if they were importing US police cars you'd expect them to choose a Caprice/Impala, Dodge Diplomat or Ford LTD Crown Victoria which wouldn't look out of place and would probably be quite cheap.

Perhaps I should add those and more captures to the site here?

Just a bunch of random pictures I have:

blue Zonda, black Zonda, red Maserati 4200GT, De Tomaso Bigua/Qvale Mangusta, Ferrari 550 or 575?, Lamborghini Murcielago, and... what's the last red thing?

AM General, maybe? It's freakishly huge, anyway.

Car show in the UK somewhere. May be too customized to identify.

I'm not good with old stuff like this, it's even harder when they're modified so much. Same car show.

It looks like a Vector, but I'm pretty sure it isn't.

Okay, it's not a real car. Really cool though. (I made up the filename, so you won't find anything searching for that)

#666 - the British thing - seems to have been an Austin/Morris 2200'Land Crab' at one time ... and the Aussie Coupe with the Scoop is an early Reliant Scimitar.

They were probably imported for previous films needing American cars, during the 1970s or 1980s. Perhaps they had been fitted with lightbars for whichever film they were used in first, and the producers of the 1994 film decided to use them and save the cost of dressing more modern models as police cars.

What's the name of the film?

Thanks!
I messed up the captions though, #666 and the Scimitar are at the same UK car show. Cyclon (the FWD drag car) is the Australian one (note the New South Wales license plate).

In response to Blackice GTS:

Oshkosh MTVR, a 7 ton truck used by the US Marine Corps.

I think it's the curiously named Daihatsu Naked.

Your guess was correct, this is a Vector SRV8.

No clue what this is exactly, but it was the star car in an anime about futuristic F1 racers.

-Never thought of Oshkosh, even though the HEMTT is one of my favorite noncombat military vehicles.
-I've heard of the Naked, I just didn't realize I had no idea what it looked like.
-Thought I knew all Vectors, I shouldn't have dismissed that idea so quickly.
-That's something to go on, I thought it was just some random model kit nobody would have ever heard of.
Thank you, that only leaves the Russian thing. There's some writing above the grill, but I can only tell that it's six letters and the first two are "YP":
http://img237.imagevenue.com/loc56/th_03015_Giorgi_122_56lo.jpg

(I found the red car in the first picture, it's a B engineering Edonis.)

Well, I searched for "futuristic anime F1 racing movie", and found a lot of unrelated things and wasted several hours. Fun!
Then I looked for "GAZ Tigr 6x6" and found this thread. I could spend days looking through that, and it's very tempting to do so, Russian military vehicles are so cool.

Cyborg Cop 2, also known as Cyborg Soldier. Very cheesy film, but it's full of non stop explosions and stunts. There also appears to be an Opel Senator used as a police car, although it's only shown for a few seconds before it's also blown up.

Can anyone tell me what this "Ford" badged SUV here is?

Ford Everest
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Everest

I searched the original location of the pic, http://www.flickr.com/photos/konsciousimages/2280808331/
So I knew it was Madagascar.
Type Ford Madagascar in Google Images, it gives an ad for renting SUVs there, and they include the Ford Everest in the models

This was an Austin 1800 funeral coach with a Woodall Nicholson body, before somebody felt like literally customizing it to death.

Here´s another view of it:

And here´s how it looked like before (not the same vehicle, but identical):

Thanks. Could you add it to the database? Badly faked locations with extremely inappropriate cars are always good for a laugh.

Hrrmphh, it doesn't

I've tried to post a pic of a total strange three-wheeler, which was running in the GDR. Perhaps it was something selfmade.

The pics are in my license-plate-collector-forum, also as pics from an unknown sportscar from the Soviet Union.

I'll try to solve the problem (but I don't know how...)
