Subject: [General] Visit Statistics
You may have noticed that since few weeks the site makes a request to google-analytics server at the end of each page (well, you see it only if you check messages in statusbar).
I registered the site there to have some more reliable stats than what I add through the logs of the server, since that one was counting thumbnails as pages because they are provided through a php page.
Now these stats are for pages only, so real visits on the site.
Anyway, here are few figures for April:
avg 8300 visits/day (259 000 visits)
136 276 unique visitors
2 300 000 page views
browsers:
IE = 63%
Firefox = 30%
Safari = 4%
incoming traffic:
13,83% direct (i.e. bookmarks or typed url)
23,68% referring sites
62,48% search engines

Google Analytics gives that info.
The IP addresses (which each machine connected to internet has) are usually linked to a country or even a region, but this is not very reliable.
For example, with my IP address the info that I am in Belgium is sure, but I only get sometimes Brussels (where I am), in lots of cases it gives me either the region of my ISP or just another Belgian city.
I suppose that in USA the split in states is quite reliable (could be compared to EU-countries), as Google offers that additional level (in other countries they directly give city info rather than a subdivision of the country).

It looks like the US states list is in about the same order as in a state population list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_population
By the way, I am surprised US is the top percent of visitors seeing as though the site started in Europe (France or Belgium if I'm not mistaken?)
Oh yeah, Ford Guy, does California's pop. estimate include the millions of illegal aliens living there?

It would be interesting to compare these numbers with the number of people living in these states.
