"..It happend to me two or three times that I had just bought a DVD and found that someone started listing the film right the next day. That is not too bad, as I buy a film for the sake of the film. Still it would be annoying if I started to capture images only to find someone else was faster"

..I've done this often.!

"A list of available film would help others asking for captures. I still have so many films in my library that it will take a very long time to capture and post images -- even if I had the speed of Stronghold! Perhaps among these is a film someone has been waiting for.
"

..as with you ..I guess I have over 1000 films/tv shows still to add ..!!! (neverending ...as I usually say with 'CHiPs".!!)

I don't often check whether a movie is already on the site (..I watch it ...then do the captures ...sometimes I'm unlucky ...like the 'Laurel & Hardy' films you had already listed.! (..I had just transferred old video-tapes onto DVD ..for my Dad ..so thought i'd add them at the same time.! ..I did add a couple of extra pics ...but if I don't add anything special ..I don't add my name to contributions.
I have some other Laurel & Hardy to do for my dad soon (a list below)
I'll do captures for these unless you have them already on DVD Alex?
(I've not checked the site for these ..or know if they contain any cars at all.!)

Beauchumps, Saps at Sea, Great Guns, Devil's Brother, Way out West, Pack up your troubles.

Also some W.C.Fields ...
Poolsharks, Golf Specialist, Dentist, It's a Gift.

From the poll results it seems that we'll have to delete the empty movie pages then.

Do someone think that it is better to archive comments posted on the movie page where the discussion started, or can I delete it directly?

Antoine, I just watched a movie which has no cars (Among Those Present, 1921). Should this information be marked somewhere?

Sometimes I upload a movie that I have scheduled to see in the future, so other members know I'm working on it...

To continue this thread and the discussion that restarted here I just read quickly over the above comments.

To sum it up (possibly a bit biased  ) :
Most members don't like the idea of "empty" film pages. But also most members would like some kind of list or reference of films that possibly could have cars (action in 20th/21st century) but have none.

The easiest way would be to include such films like all other films. In my opinion there should be a sign or icon showing clearly that no car are in the film plus a footnote explaining why the film has been listed all the same.

Without this clear notice such films look very strange, especially if there are no additional comments.

---

Antoine, I guess it is up to you to take appropriate steps, else this subject falls back into hibernation again.

I didn't even remember we had already talked about this ...

Well, nothing prevents from putting a comment on the movie page (like what Steve did on that page that you linked).

About an icon, I do not really see why, but I could add that, yes, or just show the number of cars in the movie near the title in the search result list.

About appropriate steps, as a majority did not want to list such movies I could not do anything else than deleting the two "movies without cars" that I listed, and not do anything more :spamafote:

This is a difficult subject. I don't want empty movie pages but perhaps somekind of a list of films (like Alexander said) which could have cars but do not have. It could have its own place somewhere on the site. These movies should also be found through search engine but not to be listed in statistics.

I find that quite strange to want the movies show in search result but no page for it... The page can be useful to put a comment.
In the search result, how should them appear? As a non-clickable link? And what if the one who listed it as containing no car missed one which is seen for a very short time? Nobody can go to the page to comment that or add the car

I too had forgotten we'd discussed this issue before! (as usual, my bad memory.! :2501: )
Well as the subjects back in conversation, I still think that a 'Modern era' film/tv show should be mentioned (even when found Without any land vehicles) as I'd done with the Zombi movie (I had already watched the movie and just added it to benefit the site. It helps with searches and saves someone else buying/watching the movie etc ... Note: I did Not add my name as contributor, as I did Not add Land vehicles (I think this is how it should be) You can already see my comments about the movie. (there are No Vehicles to take credit for  )

Let's just try it out. Since the poll was made considerable time has gone by and IMCDb has grown immensely. It is more common now to add extra images like trains, planes or ships, or these Jean-Marc-Specials ...

If too many other members shout at us we could always remove the entries.

Antoine, would it be possible that a 'No Cars' sign is being shown automatically if no cars were listed?

Shown where? Where the vehicle list should appear?
Btw edges of your sign are strange (where the circle edge matches the image edges)

Yes, would be a good place, I think.

Not strange, pink!

If you would like to take it I'll make you a nice one. Just tell me which size you would prefer ... and if this sign or a different one.

Here are some signs to choose from.
Transparent background ... and no pink edges ...

They all have white borders ... not visible here, but later in IMCDb.

The 2nd one from the end is maybe the best choice.
I'll clear the background if needed.

This or the fourth. For the second we probably need to add a winking smilie

The background is already transparent.

I would propose a very limited space for individual reviews. No pictures would be allowed and the number of characters in a review would be very low. Many American films I've seen have 90 percent interior scenes with perhaps a taxi or limousine shown briefly. It is these films that disrupt my recording strategy. I usually record the entire film in order to understand the vehicle roles when the use of them is more prevalent. Don't worry these contributions will eventually be brought forward!

Creating a separate post:
Another hit-or-miss category includes Turn-of-the-Century set films such as "Meet Me in Saint Louis" or "The Reivers" and many black and white films set in this era. The number of independent manufactures makes for an interesting subject for IMCDB, I believe.

I am not sure to understand what you mean with that "review" thing
You mean a description/summary of the movie plot? Or about the car use?
